UNIFORM

As the majority of parents wish to send their children to school in uniform, the school has a uniform which is as follows:

BOYS

GIRLS

Grey trousers or shorts

Grey skirt, tunic, pinafore dress or

tailored grey trousers

White shirt and school tie

White shirt and school tie

Maroon pullover with school logo

Maroon pullover or cardigan with school logo.

Short-sleeved shirt and tie or a white polo shirt in the summer with grey shorts or trousers

A pink/white gingham dress in the summer

Children wearing shirts are expected to wear the school tie, which is on sale in school, throughout the academic year

FOOTWEAR

In the interest of safety and the health of the children’s feet, footwear worn in school must be flat-heeled shoes or  sensible sandals in the summer, which support feet properly, not slip on fashion shoes, canvas shoes or branded trainers.

P.E. KIT

Maroon T-shirt and shorts with school logo (on sale in school)

Black pumps (non lace-up)

Training shoes are not allowed in the hall, but can be used for outdoor games

Swimming costume (not a bikini) or swimming trunks for boys who have timetabled lessons. A swimming cap (on sale in school) is also recommended. At present swimming is timetabled for Year 4 and 5 classes.

A tracksuit, jogging suit or sweater is advisable for games lessons if the weather is cold.

Children take part in P.E., games and swimming lessons unless withdrawn for medical reasons.  A note must be sent to school explaining the reason for non participation in these lessons. You will be notified by the class teacher if your child regularly does not bring in kit, or if there is a concern about the amount of PE he/she has missed

CONTACT BETWEEN SCHOOL AND PARENTS

The class teacher is the parent’s first point of contact on all matters concerned with the well being of pupils.  Regular contact is invaluable (the school diary is a good way to do this), problems are therefore less likely to arise and if they do there is less chance of any misunderstanding.

Teachers value the help and encouragement that parents give their children at home, and staff are always willing to discuss this important contribution with individual parents, particularly in the case of a child who is worried, unhappy or would benefit from extra help with her/his work.

If you feel that you would like to talk to a teacher about a matter that can be resolved in a few minutes then it is not necessary to make a prior appointment, but we would ask that as far as possible you keep to the periods just after a teaching session.   If you feel a longer discussion is necessary then a pre-arranged appointment is advisable.

If parents wish to discuss any matter with the Headteacher, she is usually available before and after the normal school hours, but a pre-arranged appointment is preferred.

Parents are also welcome to become involved in a more structured way assisting teachers in the classroom.  Parents who may be interested are asked to contact the school.

We provide a number of means of contact between parents and teachers, namely Parent Assemblies, Open Evenings, Termly Reports, and of course discussion between yourself and the class teacher or the Headteacher.  A newsletter is sent home each week to keep you informed of both past and forthcoming events concerning all aspects of school life. We also have a web site at www.ricelanejuniorschool.com  where letters, lunch-time menu, newsletters and photographs are displayed.

PARENT ASSEMBLIES

Parents are invited to join their children and teachers at a Friday morning assembly when the respective classes take the assembly.
