4B Caribbean Assembly – Well done to all the children in 4B who performed a wonderful assembly on the Anansi Stories this morning.  The children have all learned a lot about the Caribbean and their reading, dancing and acting was such a pleasure to see. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend I’m sure you were all as proud of them as we are.


Year 5 – Football at De La Salle – Congratulations to the year 5 boys football team who attended a tournament at De La Salle on Wednesday.  The boys competed against four other primary schools and finished second by winning 2 games, drawing 1 and losing 1.  They will take part in the schools final on Thursday.  All boys involved will receive a letter next week to confirm details. Well done Boys.


Year 6 – The Year 6 teachers have requested pupils bring in newspapers. (Please ensure that they are

 ‘suitable’).Thank you.


Colomendy – Medical Forms – Thank you to everybody who has already completed and returned the medical forms for Colomendy, if you have not as yet sent yours back, can you please do so by MONDAY, 6TH FEBRUARY 2012 to enable us to process them for the Local Authority. Thank you.

Medicines – Medicines that are no longer to be used in school need to be collected before next Friday (10th), after this date they will be disposed of by the school.


Year 5 Bollywood – On Wednesday, 1st February, a lady called Purvi came into Rice Lane School to show Year 5 classical Indian dancing.  This was linked to the Year 5’s topic on India.  As well as dancing the children learnt how people in India dress, the children also tried on the clothes (Sari, Dappta, village wear and the boys wore boy’s clothes from India).  At the end of the day, the children had the opportunity to ask Purvi some questions about India in General. By Rachel and Faye in 5WH.


Hans Christian Andersen – On Tuesday all the children watched a performance of the life of Hans Christian Andersen and learnt about the stories he had written. The children really enjoyed the performance and the actors were very complimentary about the children.


Goodbye and Good luck Ms Byrne – The children in class 3B took home a letter yesterday informing them that Miss Byrne will be leaving us next Friday 10th February. We are very sad to see Miss Byrne leave us but wish her well in her new position as an outreach teacher in Kirkby. Good Luck Miss Byrne! We will all miss you.


Rice Lane Infant School Enterprise Club – Congratulations to the Infant’s School Enterprise club who have got through to the final of a city wide competition. They have produced a lovely book on a child’s eye view of Liverpool. Now they need to sell as many as they can!! If you are interested in buying a book at a cost of £5, please make contact with the Infants school as soon as possible.


Fundraising for Special Care Baby Unit at Whiston Hospital – Two of our parents – Sarah Grady and Jay Smith are fundraising for the Special Care Baby Unit at Whiston Hospital. They are running in the Liverpool Half Marathon and would love any parents who are willing to sponsor them. They will be on our playground collecting any loose change that you have to help the fund and will give out draw tickets for anyone who donates more than £5. You can also donate at justgiving.com/Jay-Smith3. The prize for the draw will be Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at the Hilton (Donated by Helper’s Cleaning Services).


Active Families -The Active Families keep fit sessions continue. The sessions take place on a Tuesday evening, 5.30pm-6.30pm in both Infant and Junior halls.


Early Morning Sports Coaching Sessions  -  These sessions will take place as normal arrangements next week, Monday am – Years 5 and 6, Tuesday Years 3 and 4.

School Crossing Patrol – Rice Lane – We have been informed by the Local Authority that a new appointment will be made for the School Crossing Patrol on Rice Lane.  A big thank you to everyone who signed the petition and who wrote in support of replacing the patrol.

Got to Dance - Uncut’ A number of children from school were part of a dance group who were on TV on Tuesday on Sky 1 ‘Got to Dance - Uncut’ Well done to Tate Harrison, Libby Nicholson-Price, Katie O’Neill and Rachel Davies. The programme is to be repeated over the weekend – look out for them.


Tennis – Amaya Dajiri, Year 3, recently played tennis in The Echo Arena to build awareness about the Olympics and to get more young people playing sport.  Amaya took part in a two hour tournament.   Well done Amaya.


Liverpool Boys Football – Four of our year 4 pupils have represented the city in the Liverpool Boy’s under 9s team over the past few weeks. Congratulations and well done to Shay Clisham, Kai Reece-Griffiths, Frankie Murtagh and Max Robb.

Andrew Begbie continues to represent the city in the under 11 Liverpool Schoolboys. We are very proud of all the boys.


School Holidays - Please note that school will CLOSE for children at 3.35pm next Friday 10 February for the half term holidays.  School will re-open at 8.55am on Monday 20 February.
